Evaporative Cooler Service and Its Importance

First let's talk about how an evaporative cooler work.

Evaporative coolers circulate water across the pads or other media. Air is blown through the pads, evaporating the water to reduce the sensible heat from the air.

The reason for the need of routine service is.

1st the build up of hard water on the cooler pads can reduce the air flow into the structure that is being cooled. As well as clog the water pump and water distributor and lead to unwanted down time. In most coolers a cleaning supply pump is used this pump will replace the water every 6 to 8 hours. It will also keep the wet section of the cooler cleaner then with out. Although this does not keep all build from occurring. I recommend draining and scrubbing the cooler with a soft bristle brush to keep the the cleaning pumps and circulation pumps running at top capacity.

2nd Moving parts need to be adjusted and lubricated to prevent premature damage thus shortening the life expectancy of the cooler. This should be done a minimum of two times a year.

3rd Fall Shut down, The proper shut down of the cooler is important to avoid damage to the cooler, waterline & structures plumbing from winter freezing. If the cooler is not shut down properly this could lead to the possibility of flooding. The reason for the flooding is that most coolers are supplied by copper tubing when water expands in the copper tubing it will expand the the copper until it bubbles and then burst.
