The right workshop requires the right cabinet hinges.
A home workshop is a very popular addition these days, as many people want to get back to a time when they were able to create things by hand and feel the inventive process course through their veins. Part of the ability to do this is having the right tools. A woodworker with jeweler's tools is only going to get so far in the world of creating, and visa versa.
Next, you need adequate storage for all those tools. Sure, there are plenty of people who pile things up and say 'I'll know where it is when I need it", but they rarely do. All they do by not having things organized is bog up their creative energy when it's trying to come out. That time wasted looking for tools may well stifle some genius creation that was waiting to take shape.
Instead make sure the storage areas are in place for the tools you have, and the ones that may be yet to come.
Some people try to use old kitchen cabinets or bathroom cabinets to fit this role. You can do that, but you need to make some minor modifications. First, change the cabinet hinges. Kitchen and bathroom cabinet hinges are often more decorative and low impact than real working hinges, which get a little rougher treatment in a workshop. If tools fall, or you are quickly grabbing for something, those may take strong hits, whacks and other torment that will send small ones flying. You also may want to put a few hooks inside the cabinet door to hold hanging items. Little bags of nails weigh a lot more than spices and other small items you may have tried to put on your old kitchen cabinet doors. That weight will pull on the cabinet hinges and wear them down.
You want to look for more industrial strength cabinet hinges that will be able to put up with the strain you need them to go through.
When you are putting up that cabinetry, look at the shelves. Can you move them around? Some things you will need in a workshop (nuts, bolts, screws, manuals, etc) don't need a lot of height in the shelves. That is height you can save for other, bulkier tools. You should make a short shelf for these items. If you can't adjust the shelf, build a new one.
For the small nuts, bolts, nails, and such, if you want to take things one step further, look for small sliding bins that you can install in that newly created short shelf. While you will be able to pull a box in and out of that short shelf, it may get annoying if a box slides to the back and your arm has a tough time fitting. By installing small sliding bins, you can put all those little items away, and be able to pull them out easily. Make sure to tape a box identifier on the front of the bin so you will know what's in it, at a glance.
